Set on a headland across the river from Fowey, Polruran is a former fishing village come tourism hotspot thanks to its charming homes, beautiful setting and relaxed atmosphere. The village’s picturesque narrow lanes are peaceful, unspoilt and virtually car-free. There are two welcoming local pubs and a small shop on this side of the river. Alternatively, take the ferry across the river to Fowey from the nearby quay and discover unique local shops and boutiques, harbour-side cafes, pubs and excellent restaurants offering tempting local produce. Surrounded by stunning coast and countryside, exploring on foot can be extremely rewarding. Try the scenic coastal walk to sandy Lantic Bay (1.5 miles) or take the ferry to Fowey to visit Readymoney Cove (1 mile). The world-famous Eden Project is a 15-mile drive. The Fowey Festival of Words and Music is held in May, and the Fowey Royal Regatta is held in August. Both bring many additional attractions and events to the town. Polruran is an excellent location for those wishing to experience these events but still have the option to escape the hustle-and-bustle of Fowey.
